When to consult
When should you consult about frailty?
Frailty advances quietly: less strength, less weight, less activity. Every early sign is a chance to reverse it.
When to consult
- You have lost weight without meaning to.
- You tire with efforts that used to be easy.
- You walk more slowly or struggle to get out of a chair.
- You need help with activities you used to do alone.
Before your visit
- Write down your current weight and what it was 6 and 12 months ago, if you know.
- Note what you eat on a typical day: protein matters here.
- Bring recent lab work if you have it.
Important points
- Unintentional weight loss must always be investigated; it is never "normal for your age".
- Prolonged bed rest weakens: even during illness, guided movement protects.
- Frailty raises the risk of complications in surgery and hospital stays.
